Picture Book Presentations

Bravo to our friends who have shared their picture books with the class. The audience was rapt as they listened to students read their fabulous picks and share some insights about the book and themselves!

Indoor Break

When it rains, we have fun! Students found a way to make the best when the weather prevented us from going outdoors.

Learning in Room 21

In Language, we've been doing several things: reading rotations, discussing picture books with rich themes and content, editing for capital and run on sentences and unpacking what makes a strong paragraph.

Here are a few charts that recap some of those ideas.

In Math, we learned how to represent large numbers different ways and now we're looking at decimals. There are a variety of missions on knowledgehook that will help students review and  rehearse what we're studying , and we will continue to play different games and explore the value of decimals and how they can be represented.

Terry Fox Run

Thank you for supporting the Terry Fox Run at NLW! Our class helped promote and organize the event. Morning announcements, assembly presentation and delivering apples to the classes were a few of the jobs students volunteered to do!

The Frist Eight Days...

Thanks for checking the blog! Here is a brief overview of some of the activities we did this week and last. Our focus was team building, learning how to be resilient when problem solving and making inferences when reading texts.

We read a variety of picture books over the course of the eight days and will continue to do so for another week or two. I was especially impressed with all of the thoughtful ideas generated about themes in Shel Silverstein's classic "The Giving Tree." So many participated and offered poignant reflections.

We did a variety of team activities that reinforced communication, collaboration and cooperation.

Our class mascot, Sunny the sloth even completed one when we all went home. He spent the next day resting!

We discussed how unhelpful thoughts are natural when we're learning something new or faced with a challenge. We shared what some of those thoughts sound like in our heads and then brainstormed helpful thoughts that can counter or replace the unhelpful ones.

After we learned about something called the learning pit. Click the link below and watch the short video to learn more.

We also visited the library which was a highlight for all of the avid readers in room 21!

Students are learning routines for Phys. Ed. and we've played a variety of cooperative games. While the weather is nice we'll spend our time outside rather than in the gym.
